Subject: hurricanes and destiny

Hurricanes are nothing new, of course. They’ve been around for a long, long time. But recently, one notes the increase in their numbers and severity. A while ago, a lurid film, “The Day After Tomorrow,” suggested that human beings had something to do with global warming, and that ultimately, global warming would catch up with us, in numerous horrendous ways. “Weather strikes back,” might be a good mantra for human beings who think that they have tamed earth and nature. Indeed, if one buys into the “intelligent design” argument, then as leader of the most powerful nation on earth, and the undisputed leader in number of SUVs and greenhouse emissions, then Katrina and Rita must stand as God’s wrath upon George W. Bush and his environment-hating cronies. Stay tuned for more and better storms.
