So, U.S. Republican Representative Peter King (NY) thinks that Canada is honeycombed with al Qaeda terrorists. This belief echoes Senator Joe McCarthy's charge in the early 1950s that communists had infiltrated, among other venues, American universities, the State Department, and the Army. McCarthy's charges were fatuous, but much serious damage was done to the fabric of North American society during that unedifying time.
