Apropos of tonight's TV debate and Republican VP Sarah Palin's observation that she is prepared to involve herself in top-level diplomacy because she can see Russia from her home state of Alaska, I got up on my roof the other night, and with a not-too-powerful telescope, I saw . . . the United States.
