Margaret Wente is wrong to dismiss the Henry Report on racism at Queen’s with the trivial assessment she makes. Having been a professor for thirty-seven years at Queen’s, I conclude that the Henry Report is long overdue. Indeed, another committee, which met during the 1990-91 academic year and was chaired by the respected psychologist/anthropologist John Berry, reached a similar conclusion. That’s two reports in fifteen years that say exactly the same thing. It’s time for Queen’s to act proactively on matters of race, and it is time for Ms. Wente to look in the mirror. There, she will behold the culture of whiteness.
